DIY Seed Starter Container

One of the best gifts I got this holiday was Grow Great Grub by Gayla Trail. My boyfriend and I are finally in an apartment that has a small outdoor area where we can put in a garden. Its basically just an oblong patch of dirt, but I have big plans for that little space.

Since I live in the Pacific Northwest I can start my indoor plants pretty early. On top of that, we've been having a warm and wet winter, so hopefully I'll be able to get things in the ground sooner as well.

One of the coolest ideas from the book is a DIY toilet paper roll seed container. I'm really excited about the process and I hope to continue keeping this blog updated with how it works out. I highly recommend picking up this book if you want to get started growing food in an apartment. I read through the entire thing in one sitting!

Toilet Paper Roll Seed Starter Container
What you will need:
1. Seed Packets       2. Toilet Paper Rolls       3. Yarn or string       4. Container to catch water
T.P, yarn or string is all you need!

I'm starting with leafy greens

To get started, tie your toilet paper rolls together loosely with your yarn or string. Place them in your water catch container.

Next, pack your dirt almost to the top. Keep in mind once you water it the dirt level will go down.

Last, plant your seeds according to the instructions on the seed packet. Get the soil moist and place it on a sunny windowsill. Wait for the seeds to germinate! I'll be posting pictures as my little plants progress and when its time to transplant. Keep following for more updates^^
